Is Binge Eating a disorder?

Binge Eating is now considered a medical disorder (BED: Binge Eating Disorder). People with BED often have other associated health issues like diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. Eating disorders such as BED are most often not only about food but also recognized as a psychiatric disorder. People develop BED as a way of coping with other deeper psychological issues.

Some of the symptoms of BED include eating faster than normal, eating till you are uncomfortably full, eating despite not feeling hungry, feeling disgusted with one's own body, having a sense of guilt, etc. It needs to be understood that people who occasionally overeat do not have BED. Only chronic overeaters are likely candidates for BED. If you feel you overeat frequently, it is time to seek doctor's advice and treatment.
